Why does the egg go 2-3 hours without smoking on an indirect cook then all the sudden start smoking again?

Deetwood,
I too spent $50 to be left dumb struck!![p]Do you have wood chips mixed in with the lump? That could be it. Also, if could be smaller pieces of lump starting to light, or juices dripping on the coals....[p]Good luck!

Deetwood, two thoughts come to mind. One is that some of the fat may be making its way into the fire and then start burning. Second is that youmay have put some smoking wood on that finally caught fire. I haven't really noticed it with my cooks except when some grease did start dripping down. Usually I have smoke in the very beginning when my smoking wood starts giving off smoke and then nothing.

Deetwood,
If a piece of lump has excessive bark on it, I have noticed it will smoke more than normal..just a thought..[p]Wess
