spaetzle in the Wok

We had a friend bring us a BIG bag of cleaned Snapper and grunt so had everyone over for a fish fry last night. I had picked up a bag of spaetzle at the German butcher last week as it was all made and dried. I do my own most of the time and wanted to try this. I cooked it off to almost done and then chopped a HUGE onion up and browned it in butter in the wok and added the cooked spaetzle. Very, very good!! No pics of the fish just fish but the spaetzle I thought I would share.

That looks delicious Julie. I LOVE spaetzle and German food. Where is this German butcher located. I'd like to check it out when and Del and I come down.

I do too Anne, I was intrigued with this as I am used to the thicker almost a mini dumpling and I loved the tiny size of this. the butcher is Kallis and they are on Tamiami so not far from you MIL's I bet. the place is always busy and if you go and they have the pretzel rolls GET ONE! and their black bean sausage is good too. There is another butcher just up the road but it had an odor the two times we went in. this place is fresh and good smelling

What is spaetzle?
Since it comes from a butcher I assume it is an animal product... -
man, I'm gonna have to look that one up....nice dull finish on the rig....I like it.

Thanks Julie! I will definitely check it out.

Hi Julie. Speaking of the rig, why are you using it with the wok? I've never seen that before. Looking forward to seeing you and Neil in a month!

Speatzle is a German noodle, my grandmother used to make it by dropping small bits of the dough in boiling water. is is great with any meat dish especially if there is gravy involved
you can get a little press thing like a cookie press to make it faster and it will look more like this that I made last night.this was great with just the butter and onions in it.

I was lazy Mark and just took of the grill from doing the fish and dropped in the wok. It back fired on me though when I tried to take it out. LOL I had to remove the rig and then I could grab the handles on the wok. what was funny is I started this in my old wok that has a wooden handle on it :( then remembered I had this new one!!! what a difference in heat on my hands!! I dropped this on the spider and i could stir it all around with no burning. way, way worth the $$ and it really was not that bad. the fish was really good and I should have taken a pic of it. just did it in bread crumbs and egg wash and browned in a little butter. simple but tasty meal
