New table...seeking advice

I just finished my new table and brought it inside for the grout to cure. As you can see, the side where the green egg is has three "walls". Someone on here gave me a good suggestion when they said to install stainless vents on teh side and back where the egg is. What should I put under the egg? I have a 16x16 piece of slate. Is this enough?

Great job on the table! I used two pieces of 12"x12" ceramic tile that have a 3/8" air gap between them. I've not had any problems with this arrangement for over 4 years. What did you use under the split brick?

how did you create the gap?

my top is slate and it is on treated plywood that is on 5 3/4 board...probably over engineered

I really like the top of your table. It appears you are in Memphis. You can get fire bricks, which are the best thing possible to put under your egg, at Boral Bricks, on Hollywood. www.boralbricks.com. They are about 4x9 in., and you can place them such that there are gaps between them to allow more air to flow through. I bought 12 of them for $17.

I took a 6x6 tile and broke it up so that the corners where about 1" on each side and used one other piece about 1"x1". I then epoxyed them at the coners and center.

I was advised to go with a two inch thick concrete paver. It seems to work well.

From what I've seen slate will crack. I like that new table nest, may be safest choice. Somebody just posted pictures of the wood under their egg that had burned through a cracked paver.

I had this stand made for my egg. Works great! Here is the number to the blacksmith that made it....his name is Charles give him a call if interested. 214-803-2974.

Also, my table is enclosed as yours and I do not have vents in mine and I have never had trouble with heat building up in there. Nice table!
