Forbidden Rice (China Black)
RRP
Posts: 26,457
A week ago I reported not being able to locate any black rice in any of our local Asian markets, though the wife of the proprietor of our largest said they were just out. Yesterday the owner told me he can no longer buy any. Sooooooo I got on the net and ordered about 3 pounds from WorldPantry.com. It was only $4.49 for each 15 oz bag and the only S & H was a modest $5.95 postage for the 3 I ordered.

And again, how do you use this rice? Just as a side? Anything special done with it?The Naked Whiz

I don't know anything about Black Rice. How is it different? Is it normally used as an ingredient or on it's own? Is it like wild rice?__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious

I just intend to use it as a colorful side, though I understand it is quite delicious.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

I wondered the same thing about wild rice since it was black and was educated here that they are two different things and in fact wild rice isn't even rice anyway!
I believe it was Fidel who first mentioned the Forbidden Rice which actually is now a trademarked name for a China black rice product.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
Ron,
I remember there being an old story about it when the Greeks were closing in on China and the Greeks outlawed it because they thought it gave the enemy special powers. Mighta been the Turks or Persians or Mongols though. That was where the name forbidden came from.
