New small BGE

I have a large BGE which I have been using for a while. Today, I am proud to announce that offspring arrived in the form of a small. What tips, tricks, equipment etc do you folks recommend to get up the learning curve on using a small? As always, I am grateful for the help.

MerlinEgger,I have been using my small 95% of the time vs 5%for the large egg. The small can cook a huge amount of food.It also burns much less charcoal than the large.Ash does tend to clog the air holes, be sure to stir the lump before each cook. If you need more cooking space, remove the firering, move the grill onto the firebox, reinsert the firering and place a second grill on the ring. For indirect cooks, boston butts etc, put a small pizza stone or pan(the BGE ceramic pie pan works well) on the lower grill. It will go about 15 hours on one load of charcoal at lower temperatures. The small egg is a GREAT cooker!!

tn slagamater,
Great idea on the moving the firering! Have had mine a year and don't feel I'm getting full advantage of it, even though I'm very pleased. I usually use the small for quick, easy cooks.

Shelby,I could not get my rib rack to fit in the small without removing the firering and sort of realized at that point that it did not have to be in there on every cook.Sometimes I just leave the ring out.
