gasket replacement

I'm just getting round to replacing the gasket on my large egg. The nut on the upper bolt on the band around the lid was on pretty tight and took some force to undo it. In doing so, I noticed that it twisted up the end of the band where the bolt goes in the hole, so it doesn't fit flush against the lid now. Is this going to cause me problems when I reassemble? I'm hoping that by tightening the nut after I replace the gasket, it will twist the band the opposite way and it will lie flush again. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
