Ceramic vs. Clay
I am considering the purchase of a large BGE. During my research, I noted that the BGE is made of ceramic (like most other modern kamados). However, the Imperial kamado appears to be made of clay (like the original kamados from Japan). Does anyone have any experience or comments on the difference between ceramic and clay?

Clay doesn't hold up to high heat, and in general is much more fragile.

One of the stress test that Big Green Egg puts thier product through is the water test, thats were they heat an egg to 1000 degrees and throw it into a pool, nufsaid.

I had a kamado in the late '60's and after 5 years it fell over and was a million little pieces. Recently I restored a large Imperial Kamado and will not take it over 350-375F due to the method used to originally fire it. For hotter cooks I use my large or small BGEs.
