Pizza Stone Help

I am purchasing a LBGE this weekend and would like to see what size stone I should get. I see several people, including whiz, use the 16" while some use the stock 14".

Also, is there a particular brand or company that has a good stone? I was looking at the 16" Deluxe Round Pizza Stone from Old Stone Company.

As I recall, you must you a metal pan beneath it right? Is that what you do? I was wondering if anyone had tried it without and then wished that they hadn't. I have a big fibrament stone in my oven, but I was curious about how tough they really would be in the Egg.

You may find that the 16" gasket damages your gasket, but then from the sound of things here, people have been damaging gaskets with 14" stones too. Not to worry, though since the replacement Nomex gasket should probably handle the heat ok.

Personally, I use the 16" stone so I can do 14" pies without having to worry about the odd edge of the dough getting over the edge and burning. 16" is perfect.

Not sure about having to put metal underneath them. i haven't used one on an egg yet. i do like fibrament more than regular stones though. Their website says that the stone just can't be exposed to direct flame.

I think they sell a "pizza" stone that comes with a pan, but maybe I'm hallucinating, lol.

I have two, one for pizza, and the other I use l ike a platesetter in TJV's adjustable rig. Love them both.

Get a Large BGE stone for a Large BGE.

Do you know the dimensions of the XL and/or Large pizza stone?

A LRG stock pizza stone is 14"... not sure on one for the XL.

I just purchased a 15" pottery kiln shelf good to about 2000 degrees.
The 15"...from what I can tell really forces the heat around it and near the gasket which melted it but I never got above 600. I think something had to do with my setup. Anyway this is like $18 about half of the BGE store for a 14"
