2nd Place Brisket !!! Whooo Hooo!
GrillMeister
Posts: 1,608
It's been a long weekend, but I finally made it back home.[p]With the help of my Big Green Egg and the BBQ Guru, our brisket came in 2nd place in a field of 110 entries at the Dripping Springs Founders Day Cook-off in Texas. We placed 8th in Chicken with the help of Dizzy Pig plus an extra spice.[p]What a blast, people coming by, looking at the eggs like they were from some alien planet. We did win a few converts who were very pleased with what they tasted and will be checking out the Texas Eggfest along with purchasing a demo egg (my partner included).[p]The only problem is the trophy has an offset pit on it instead of a BGE. [p]There's nothing like a trophy to help get you hooked on the cookoff bandwagon.[p]GrillMeister

First try? @nd brisket? Watch out dr bbq!
You've been bitten by the bug. Got to enter more and do better now
Maybe TNW will let you use this picture to cover the offset on the trophy.

GrillMeister,[p]First of all GREAT congratulations! Did you taste Brisket #1? If so, what did you see in it, if anything, that made it better than yours?[p]mShark

GrillMeister,
2nd brisket out of 110 entries?!! Awesome! You sure are setting some high standards for us other BGE teams out there! Again, outstanding showing!
Congrats from the Dizzy Pig guys!

GrillMeister,[p]Congratulations! That is really incredible. I do hope you're cooking brisket at the Texas Eggfest?????? I could stand to learn a thing or two.[p]TRex

BBQfan1,[p]Thanks. It looks like the Texas Eggheads will be competing again soon, but we'll have another egg to work with. Folks loved the chicken with Tsunami Spin & Jamaican Firewalk, though I did improvise with another spice.[p]Cheers,[p]Ed[p]
-
mollyshark,[p]Thanks! We never did taste the 1st place brisket, but we did have a bunch of folks come by who did, and they kept saying ours was better. [p]See ya in May![p]
-
BobinFla,[p]Thanks. It was my 2nd competition with brisket, though I have cooked about 20 of them since first getting my egg.[p]I hope drbbq comes to Texas to give a class some day as I will be participating in more cook-offs.[p]Gotta love the Whiz's baby egg & cart pic.[p]Cheers,[p]Ed

GrillMeister,
did you say you won an off set lump storage system?
-
GrillMeister,[p]Congratulations!!! I think that brisket is the hardest thing to do well. It is especially impressive in Texas, where brisket seems to be a specialty.[p]Larry

Mr. Hyde,[p]Thanks! Brisket is very big here. I've had lots of practice. I started giving Christmas Briskets last year as it seemed like a neat gift that required a little bit of yourself to create.[p]See ya in Waldorf.[p]Ed
-
GrillMeister,
Damn boy! Nice job.
Congrats this fine Monday mornin!

Nature Boy,[p]Thanks! Now I have to unload my truck and a car of all my stuff. The hardest part is man handling large BGEs.[p]I'm out of Ragin River. It's time for a bulk order again.[p]See ya in Waldorf![p]Ed

GrillMeister,[p]Holey frijoles...... that's a great showing outta 110 teams... congratulations!

GrillMeister,Wow!Is that your first competition? What an awesome finish, Ed!!
-
GrillMeister,
I knew when I saw a bright smile glow in the south western skies that some Egger won a prize. Wish we had something like that in so cal.
-
Have you seen the salesman models (or whateber you call them) that are about 6" high or so? They're miniture replicas of eggs that seem to be pretty exact. I saw one on the counter at a dealer's a couple weeks ago. It would work perfect.
-
GrillMeister,
Does this mean we're going to have to start calling you Mister GrillMeister? Congratulations. I'm even more eager to get to the Texas Eggfest so I can hear some of the untold stories of your adventure. I knew you would do well. After all, you have a year of experience and three thousand years of technology behind you.[p]Spring Chicken

Outstanding, Ed!!!![p]Jim

Pakak,[p]Thanks, I saw one in Atlanta at the BGE HQ, but not one locally.

-
tn slagamater,[p]Thanks! It was my second competition. My first one was the World of Texas BBQ Cook Off in Temple where we held the Texas Eggfest last year. It sure was fun!
-
tach18k,[p]Thanks for the kind words.[p]Ya'll don't have any cook offs in Southern Cal.
-
Spring Chicken,[p]Thanks! Herr Doctor GrillMeister sounds good It was a blast. We cooked TRex NY Strips, Spatchcock Chicken, Pulled Pork, Fajitas, Smoked Salmon, and the Brisket. Plus we went through a bit of cold malted beverages as well. 32 more days till Texas Eggfest 2004![p]It'll be a great time! See ya there.[p]Ed
-
JSlot,[p]Thanks Jim! How's that trailer working for your eggs?[p]Ed
-
The trailer is working great, Ed. I just put some tie down pads on the wall and use ratchet straps to snug the Eggs up against the wall. The strap runs around the Eggs just below lip of the bottom. So far, so good. I've got my eye on some Rubbermaid mobile shelves to finish the trailer off. Once I have those, everything can be rolled out of the trailer and it can be used for anything else I need. I'll try and get some pics taken of how it's set up. Congrats again on your trophy!!![p]Jim

JSlot,[p]Sounds good. We're looking for a way to easily transport eggs. Thanks again.[p]Ed
