Small Butt?
The Naked Whiz
Posts: 7,777
I want to cook a small amount of pulled pork. Where do you guys find those little four pound butts that sometimes I see referenced here? Or could I your garden variety 8 pound butt and perhaps divide it in 2 before freezing half?
Thanks!
Thanks!

See no reason you couldn't cut one down..get mine at Costco and have never gotten one that small either...cook the whole thing and foodsaver and freeze the pulled pork would be my advice...what's it been...a year now...LOL

I don't see why you couldn't half it. I think that'll be fine!Molly

TNW,
Our Lowes here in Winston is pretty accomodating. I asked the butcher for a 4 pounder one day and he walked over to the pork section, took an 8 ponder, cut it in half, weighed and repackaged both pieces, gave me one and put the other back in the fridge section. Just tell them what you want. -
Wess!! I didn't think you would remember, LMAO! Almost 2 years. If I make it to Waldorf, I'll bring some more campaign buttons so you can get another one, :woohoo:The Naked Whiz

Thanks for the info. I too have been looking for a small butt to try on my new mini.

Publix around here seems to frequently put out small ones (4-6lbs) that are individually wrapped. I suspect that they are just halving the large ones.
I like big butts.... and good things come in pairs!! (cryovac pairs that is)
My preference is to just cook two at a time since I am burning the charcoal anyway and just freeze the extra.
It is always handy to have some pulled pork in the freezer when you feel the need to make some ABT's, pork enchiladas, or just want a good BBQ sandwich and don't have a day or two to make it

I've had a 6.5 lb. butt on my mini. Just cover a pizza screen with foil and that is your indirect barrier. Finished in 8 hours.

Did you have to addd more lump? If so, how'd you do it. I have a mini woo and two pizza stones that I plan on trying some indirect cooking on.

You could just buy what you need from me HAHAHAHA
