I was wondering what ppls thoughts are about grilling a frozen steak? I had one guy tell me you should never do it and another guy do it and said its the best steak he has ever had.

I've thrown thick ones on that were not completely thawed- still partially frozen and they were fine. Obviously took a little longer to get done. Do a 2-stage cook, sear and roast. Just will have to roast a bit longer to get to your desired temp/ doneness.
  • describe he steak you want on your plate, and how thick the frozen one is.

if you like a pittsburgh steak, you can do it on the egg without freezing anything.
but if your buddy has a gasser (which can't get nearly as hot), he's maybe talking about a charred exterior and a raw interior.

freezing a steak might keep the steak cool enough on a gasser long enough to char the exterior.

but that's not only goofy, it's not required on an egg.

steak at 2 minutes over a fire with a dome temp of 800+, and you can pretty much achieve the same thing

And doesnt that go against alot of what we know about grilling steaks? Allowing to "warm" for an hour beofre grilling, etc....

I always think of the Stones's "Mothers Little Helper" when I hear the term "frozen steak".

PS. I'm pulling for Vikes also.

Toss it in some water while the egg warms and don't listen to clowns cooking on a gasser. I have 2 friends that use that method on their gassers and I just gotta laugh at'em.
