I just got my large BGE all assembled and I want to ease into something for a small group of 6-8 friends this weekend. I watched the video that came with the egg and I remember seeing the part about an EGGfest and someone cooking some bacon wrapped(I think)crab stuffed shrimp that sounded great. I've looked on this site but can't find the receipe. Can anyone help?

    <p />Ohio Ed,
I don't due bacon wrapped but I take shrimp and marinate in a mixture of Wishbone Itailian Dressing, honey and cayenne pepper (YB suggestion I think).
    Skew and cook. Very tasty.[p]

  • Ohio Ed,
don't know this recipe, but i simply peel and skewer large shrimp (i like the 15 count). ...brush with olive oil, dust with a combination of 50/50 old bay/dizzy pig tsunami spin (and or jamaican firewalk for spicier tastes). . .grill direct at about 400 degrees dome temp for about 3 - 4 minutes per side. . .[p]they are fantastic. . .served with home made cocktail sauce (ketchup and horseradish to taste). ...[p]simple but good. ..

Ohio Ed,[p]If you really want to impress them, then you got to try Nature Boy's Raging River Maple/Butter Crusted Salmon Recipe. If you don't have the rub, try to find something else with some similar ingredients. This will amaze your friends and you can get huge fresh filets at Costco.

Ohio Ed, here's the closest we got:[p]Theo and Rita Bacon Wrapped, Crab Stuffed, Shrimp

Theo and Rita Riddle, Douglasville, Ga., cooked this recipe at the 1999 EGGtoberfest. It was called Savannah Style Shrimp. Several attempts have been made to get that recipe - even asking folks who were standing there next to them. Conclusion reached is they have never been posters here on the forum and they seem to have vanished before the VCR tape was edited! I looked for it too and could not find it so we developed our own and I have to say it is a favorite. [p]Ingredients:
    4 Jumbo Shrimp
    1/4 cup fresh crab meat
    1 tsp olive oil
1/4 tsp pepper (black and red)
    1/4 tsp salt
    1/4 tsp parsley
    1/4 lemon juiced
    4 slices bacon

    Directions:
1 Take the shrimp. devein them and butterfly them.
2 Saute the fresh crab meat in a skillet with olive oil, salt, pepper, (black and red), parsley, and a little lemon.
3 Place a spoonful of the crabmeat in the shrimp and lay on a piece of bacon at the very end of the bacon.
4 Carefully roll up the bacon and fold it over so the crabmeat will stay in.
5 I like to then pour Italian dressing over the shrimp for at least a couple of hours.
6 Get egg up to about 500 degrees and sear the bacon for a couple of minutes on each side then shut down until done...usually about 20 minutes or so.
7 For best results, go to Lowes and get their fish basket that locks the food in place and place the shrimp in and close tightly. The shrimp does not dry out since it is wrapped in bacon. There may be a better way to do this but this works for me.
8 Good luck with it. [p]Recipe Source

    GrillMeister,
Thanks for the tip, I tried this recipe tonight for my first cooking lesson on the BGE and it was truly an experience. Temp control was not as bad as I anticipated..really simple and thanks to Kelly Keefe and Spin. His instructions posted 3/15/04 were a big help in understanding whats going on. His bottom vent settings were right on for my Large EGG versus Dome Temp.
I didn't coat the Salmon with as much rub as Dizzy Pigs instruction but it came out great!
I forgot to take pictures but will do so when I try the shrimp and crab appetizers.
