Had to Buy A Case of Beer Today

My grocery store is toying with my emotions. On Friday, they got in a load of jalopenas that have "ABT's" written all over them. Today, they have a bin of pork butts that only Stumpbaby can dream about...so I bought a 10 1/2 pounder at 1.29/lb. Hey, not the best price, but a fine hunk o'pork that isn't easy to find around here. [p]With all this emotional stimuli, I had to buy a case of beer so I could practice smoking the butt. I only have two questions: 1.) Will I need to buy more beer before I actually start smoking the butt? 2.) Do I make a Carolina-style pull or Cuban-style Lechon Asado?

WDAN,
You're a lucky man. In Minnesota, you can't buy real beer on Sundays unless you are being served in a restaurant or bar...and that's only up until midnight. You can buy 3.2 beer in the convenience stores (no grocery stores), but that's not really beer.[p]I'm still up because I am just getting ready to pull the two pork shoulders I'm cooking....ya, it's late.....but I drank too much beer last night to get them going when they were supposed to go on the grill. So, when I got up off the couch at 5AM, I started the grill (ouch!) So, they have about 18 hours of 225-250, and the internal is at 192 and 197...close enough for tonight. [p]Oh, by the way, I paid $2.59 per pound for the shoulders, and about $1.00 per pound for the lump. Just the cost of doing business.[p]I vote for the Carolina style...because I like the BBQ sauces from that part of the country. Then again, I like the Cuban foods, so why not combine the 2 styles and make everybody happy?[p]Mike in MN

Carolina Style is my choice and I would factor in about 2 beers per lb when doing butts.[p]Dean In N.C.

WDAN, how do you cook the cuban style Lechon Asado, and what is it like. our neighborhood is doing a jamaican style summer bash with lots of bannana rum that has been brought back this winter. i need a good contribution.
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
WDAN,[p]1.) Yes.[p]2.) Make the Lechon Asado Pork, post the recipe and let us know how it turned out.[p]John [p]

fishlessman and WooDoggies,
I'm sorry I don't remember how to post a link to the archives. But, if you go to the top of the forum and click on the archives, you can find a post of mine from January 7 called "Lechon Asado, Major Success." I did it for a New Year's Eve gathering and it impressed and amazed even the most casual observers! Fishlessman: This is definitely appropriate fair for anything Caribbean. Note also, black beans and rice are a perfect complementary side dish. Throw in something with pineapples and/or coconut and/or bananas and they'll want to vote you in for mayor!

WDAN,[p]Thanks, mang. The recipe and side sauce sound terrific....... too good as a matter of fact.[p]To post a link to the archives or any webpage or website, cut and paste the web address into the "Optional Link URL:" box (in this case it was,http://www.biggreenegg.com/archives/2004/messages/110702.htm) and then type any title into the "Link Title:" box.... this is important because it will not link if you don't type text into the title box.
This took me a little while to figure out.[p]John[p]
