We need a recipe for spatchcock chicken we are reading so much about.
Also, does BGE charcoal smoke a lot just after ignition ans
until it is all lit? We just got our BGE and couldnt find BGE
charcoal. So we used Kingsford and it did not hardly smoke when
igniting. Today we found Cowboy natural charcoal and it smoked terribly bad. We have our BGE on our screened porch with a range hood
to exhaust what smoke does occur. But the Cowboy natural charcoal
was to much.

JaneTom,[p]Well, since no one else has chimed in yet, let me me pass on a few words of advice. For starters, don't use Kingsford in your cooker ever again. It's nothing but sawdust held together with binder. It's very expensive for the amount you must use, creates a tremendous amount of ash and cannot be reused after a cook. [p]Now, as far as natural charcoal is concerned, it's going to smoke. That's what "real" wood does. As the charcoal burns down into glowing embers, the smoke will subside but will not stop altogether. Using charcoal from a previous cook will cut down on some of the smoke as well. Is there any other place to put your new EGG? You do not have to worry about the weather. My EGG has sat outside uncovered for the last four years and there is absolutely no rust on the hinge or stand. (I keep the daisy wheel inside the EGG when not in use)[p]Maybe someone else will chime in and give you suggestions as to how to cut down on the amount of smoke. Check out www.nakedwhiz.com and go to the charcoal lump review section. He gives very descriptive narratives on different charcoals one can purchase and their performance.[p]Good luck with your search. [p]Regards, Mac

JaneTom,[p]Almost forgot. The Naked Whiz's website also features the Original Spatchcock Chicken Recipe. He was the kind gentleman that introduced me to this marvelous chicken cooking mehtod.

Mac in NC , I'm only going to chime in about the location. I've got two of my Eggs on my covered porch and it has never been too much smoke for the porch. I'll get a steady stream at the beginning but it subsides quickly. I have a friend who has a BGE which she stores on a patio under her backporch but insists that it be pulled out to cook (so she won't get smoke on her white ceiling). Thg elast time I cooked for her it was raining cats and dogs. The BGE faired the weather well but I did not. Even with a raincoat and umbrella, I was soaked to the skin. It was coming down at a rate of 3"/hour and although the BGE held the temperature really well, I decidedI would not put all mine on my deck. It's nice to be able to laugh at the weather every now and then.

Wise One,[p]I'm with you 100% on using those EGGS on your covered porch. Unfortunately for me, I don't have one. I was under the impression that the "JaneTom" poster was probably Jane and she didn't like the sight or smell of smoke on her covered porch. A little like my wife. She loves to eat the food but refuses to be around the EGG when its working its magic. [p]I was hoping they would chime in with a little more info. (tell us why its too much smoke) and then I was going to mention GFW's website as well. He too, has his EGG under cover. I got a feeling that they, like most of us, used Kingsford briquettes for many years prior to their EGG purchase and are not used to real charcoal's performance. I'm sure when they give natural lump a chance and taste the difference in flavor, they will never look back at Kingsford again.[p]Thanks for letting them know that the smoke will not harm the porch awning.. Maybe it will ease their worries and allow them to enjoy their new toy without hesitation. [p]Have a great Monday!! Mac
