Gasket and Adhesive Info

First - thank you all for the information and for being good sports. We are all entitled to our own opinions.
I pulled this info right off a ceramic gaskets website and got a definition I thought was important. To me - gaskets are an individual thing...some like felt, some nomex, some rutland, some ceramic. I think you will find the below info very important. I have a little more info on my reply in the original thread further down the page.
Two words really caught my eye...Non Toxic.
Thermeez Fabrics are woven from Industrial Grade, Asbestos
Free, Ceramic Fibers.
Thermeez 395 is usable up to 1100ºF and Thermeez 397 is
usable up to 1500ºF.
Thermeez Products are user friendly and unlike fiberglass,
non-irritating to the skin. Non-Toxic, Meets OSHA
Requirements and Will Not Burn. They are Resistant to molten metal sparks and splashes, most
chemicals and solvents.
I thought I would post a definition too - please notice #2
1. nontoxic - not producing or resulting from poison
atoxic
harmless - not causing or capable of causing harm; "harmless bacteria"; "rendered the bomb harmless"
toxic - of or relating to or caused by a toxin or poison; "suffering from exposure to toxic substances"
2. nontoxic - safe to eat
non-poisonous, nonpoisonous
comestible, eatable, edible - suitable for use as food

And from the Rutland MSDS:
"Ingestion: give one or two glasses of water to drink."
and from their Technical Data Sheet:
"Limitations:
Not recommended to come in contact with food."
If you are touching your food to your gasket then, no offense, you're doing it wrong anyway. The Rutland is saturated with graphite to help prevent/minimize fraying of the fiberglass fibers.
My opinion is don't over think it. There are far more dangerous things associated with cooking outdoors to concern yourself with. I've used Rutland for years. Mine has yet to have any areas of fraying or deterioration. -
Agreed - so anyone can or don't have to use them.

i have always rather enjoyed the contradiction of someone not wanting to use the rutland, while searing the fat in their high-meat diet over roaring coals as carbon monoxide fumes pour out the dome chimney.
human beings tend to pick and choose the things they worry about -
Thoughtful reflection. Life is full of contradictions.

Although the gasket manufacturers will deny this, there is one problem with any kind of gasket, and it even occurs with people who fry their gasket and don't replace it: the gaskets, no matter what kind, and the non gaskets induce a certain chemical into the food in the egg. This chemical reacts with the brain cells of the person eating the food and causes him to want to have more egged food. Scientists are just beginning to study this phenomenom, and they have found it is a cumulative type of thing; in layman's terms, it just gets worse over time. There is no known cure! I could go on in great detail, but I think most of you understand what I am talking about.

Dang Strip - you made me hungry with that post!
Uglydog - pretty good. -
I pretty much agree with all of you lol. I think it is very over thought and imagine any of the gaskets mentioned are "fine" under normal use. If you are using the gasket to wipe off the excess sauce from the meat, them maybe there would be a case to be made, or maybe you should stick to an oven. I've been lurking around the forum for about two years, that may not be long for some of you, but I have seen my share of posts on this topic. I haven't heard any actual "harmful" results from anyone using any of the gaskets described. I think it's mostly speculation and needless worry, but just my opinion. I do however appreciate everyones research and posts on the topic. I think its just a matter of personal preference in the end. Whatever you choose, no gasket, ceramic, felt, rutland, nomex, hope you all continue to enjoy the eggsperience.
