Can anyone tell me a good source for wood chips and where can I get an alder plank?? I need some chips for my salmon I'm doing next week. I do utilize the neighborhood for wood and then chips it myself. No alder around, however. Thanks for the help.

Doug,if you have tag alder growing in your area the chips from it work very well for smoking salmon.

bman,
Smokin Todd told me at EggFest that he ordered his cherry chunks from a place online...I think the site is:
www.peopleswoods.com
check into it. They have a variety of woods available in both chunk and chip form. The chunks are HUGE!

bman, we have a lot of speckeled alder around here in Maine. Never saw any tag alder. The speckeled alder grows in low wet areas and is more like a large bush with many stems.Maybe I need to plant some real alders!!

Doug, that description matches what we refer to as tag alder here. Probably the same thing.
