Frisper

I asked for a food saver for Christmas but got a Frisper, has anyone had experience with this product? The main thing I was looking for was a way to freeze brisket and pulled pork as there are only three of us plus friends and there are always leftovers. I've done a google search without a lot of luck when it comes to bbq. The package says that the bags are okay to boil. Any thoughts?

    I had never hear of 'Frisper' but after looking at the web site, it appears that it might be a bit easier to use than a Food Saver. I would like to see some reviews as to how well it compares over time though.

    I would treat it just like a Food Saver. Put the bag in boiling water to reheat. Try some and give us a review.

    Interesting, that is one system I was not familiar with unit I saw your post. I went out to thier web site out of curiosity. I have a FoodSaver.

    Pros
    Small, easy to store
    Bags can be resealed up to 10 times
    Can get three year extended warranty
    Cost of unit

    Cons
    Bags are predetermined size- no rolls
    Availability of bags?
    No canisters?
    Will not work with dry aging bags
    Cost of bags?
    Liquids must be partially frozen?


    Web site talks about sealing jars but gives no way to do it. It does come with a hose but there looks like limited usage for it. They mention "pantry bags" but I did not see them on the web page. I get FS bags at Sam's, it's like 5 20' rolls, 8" & 11" widths, for about $40. If you can get an extended warranty I would think it is well made. FoodSavers seems to have a limited life expectancy (may be for years) and no extended warranty. I have never heard anyone say that they have had their FoodSaver for ever. FoodSaver also recommends using their bags only once if storing meat. Your Frisper you keep resealing.

    These are just my impressions as a FoodSaver owner. It looks like a handy unit but I would not be surprised if there were a FoodSaver in your future. I think both systems have their advantages. I think the FoodSaver is like the BGE, you think you know what you will use it for when you get it but once you have it you find it is good for much more. I repackage all my raw meats with it to protect my investment. I also live alone and can buy family sized packages and break them down into personal sized portions before freezing.

    S.T. - Very interesting. Just sent them an email inquiring as to the necessity of using only their proprietary bags or using regular zip-lock bags.

    My wife will not use our Food Saver, but would rather use zip-locks. This looks simple enough even for her.
  • Thanks for the input, I think I'll keep it and see how well it works, but Gator your probably right, food saver will be in my future. I had the cheapo glad (I think) system that I still use for grain storage for beer making, but knew you couldn't boil those bags. I'll post an update after I use it.

    That's probably what I would do SlowTurtle. I think both systems have there strong points. Either way, I think vacuum sealing is the way to go.
