Deck Lumber for Table
I'm thinking of building a table and fear that the staining and finishing will be the majority of the work. Has anyone used either pre-treated deck lumber or synthetic deck lumber to build an egg table? I would not mind the rougher look this would provide, and it seems it would give excellent durability.
Any thoughts?
By the way, the table will be for 2 eggs, one medium, one large.

One of the best looking tables I have seen. -
Deck lumber will work fine, but as you said, it will ive a rough look. The synthetic materials out there do not have much structural strength, I would check with a contractor that builds a lot of decks before using it.
Using a wood sealer on untreated lumber is not a huge amount of work. You just apply it any old way and let it soak in and dry, usually just one coat. It does not require multiple coats or sanding like varnish.
Cypress is the first choice if it is available in your area. Western cedar, redwood and Douglas fir are also good choices.
Good Luck,
Capt Frank -
I framed mine with treated lumber and planked it with left over AZEC decking from my deck. It worked fine.

Finishing is easy if you go with a wipe-on oil. Watco makes a product called Teak Oil, an outdoor rated penetrating oil finish. Just an option here.

I used plain old treated lumber from Lowes and sanded it smooth.
