Hi Guys,[p]Fogive me for being such an amateur.........but what does the term "pulled" mean?[p]I see it tossed around and feel like an idiot not knowing what it means.[p]Thanks for all of your great help.......the egg is coming soon...along with the 58" cypress table. Any comments on table preference?[p]

  • GonnaGetOne,
when you smoke a pork butt or shoulder lo and slo for pork barbeque, there are two basic things you can do with it...one is to 'chop' it, whereby you take all the meat and chop it up for sandwiches etc. . .. the other is to 'pull' it, where you take the meat and literally pull it apart with your hands. . .after a lo and slo smoke (and we are talking about 2 hours per pound at around 230 - 250 degrees in your egg) the pork butt will just about fall apart in your hands, and it will pull apart into long strands of meat. . .its really excellent. .

  • GonnaGetOne,[p] It refers to a method of serving the meat. The traditional methood involves taking two forks and pulling the meat apart until it has a shredded texture. Personally, I prefer to use my fireman's gloves and just rip it apart . . . [p]MikeO

You might want to use something besides your hands.[p]Folks work gok but the best I have found are "Bear paws". Got them some years ago. They are plastic 'claws' you grip in each hand and rip/shred/pull the meat apart with.[p]I just did a Google search and I see them at

  • MikeO,[p]You showing up at the Eggfest this year? Any chance of you doing a pulled pork demo again?

char buddy (for now),[p]More importantly, does he have any of that YUMMY habanero jelly that he brought last time.....?[p]Tonia
    :~)

  • GonnaGetOne,[p]In addition to pulling apart or shredding a pork butt, the word "pulled" is frequently used to mean "removed from the pit". For example, "I pulled the brisket when it reached an internal temp of 195 degrees, and held it wrapped in foil, in a cooler, for a couple of hours".[p]Lee[p]

QSis, I'm glad to see someone is thinking outside the box. You are absolutely right and all of us just jumped right past it. Great catch!

  • Wise One,[p]Thank you, sir. :-)[p]For some, like me, it is a learned skill that I consciously have to practice. Others, like Q.N.E. tyme, are born with the ability to think outside the box. [p]Lee
