Trying to set up my small for indirect cooking. Called BGE and they said they don't make a platesetter for the small. Any ideas? Thanks & See-Yaa

    LoveHandles,
I may be wrong, but if I am not mistaken, I have a plate setter for a small, call back and try talking to someone else, they may have misunderstod your request, then again, I stand to be corrected. The one I have really is small, about 9 inches in diameter, unless it goes on a medium ???

    Chef Wil,
As far as I know, they don't sell a P.S. for the small. It isn't on the website. I've only ever heard of P.S.'s for the medium and large. [p]TNW

LoveHandles,[p]BGE does not make a platesetter for the small, however, they do make a deep dish pizza pan made of ceramic that we use and it works well. We put the grid in first, then the ceramic, then our raised grid system to get the same effect as you would with the platesetter. [p]You can also use firebricks to create something similar with two standing on end to hold up a second grid and two providing the barrier |__|.[p]They do make one for the medium, and I wish they would for the small, but you can make it work....[p]Tonia

  • WessB,
Hey, get that Harley and ride with us or meet us in New Orleans in May. About 30-40 guys are leaving Arizona bound for N.O. May 15th. We're looking forward to some good old cajun and creole food. The reason we're doing it is its the 35th anniversary of the movie Easy Rider. Good excuse huh? See-Yaa

    LoveHandles,
I use a cheap stoneware pizza dish you can pick up at local food stores. This seems to work pretty good sitting on the grid, and then I use a cheap stainless grid raised with stainless carriage bolts. Cobble-job special! (it works pretty good though).

LoveHandles, real nice work. Is your Egg still plain ole green?

  • Borders,
Yea, its still green, but the table it sits on is tiled with black, bordered in green. Also, I have a bbq tool box that sits on the bottom shelf of the table that just happens to have flames on it. Imagine that!!

    LoveHandles,
Scan down to the 8 inch stones. I don't have them yet.

LoveHandles,[p]I just typed in "plate setter" into google and found a site that sells smaller size plate setters for kilns. Here's the link:[p]

LoveHandles,[p]I just checked out the dimensions for a small, and this link would provide one that would probably work better (12 1/2 inches).[p]

    QBabe,
I have a similar set up as you for my small, however I have never used it to do a low and slow yet. Just curious, about how many hours should I expect the first load of lump to last at about 250 degree dome temp?

WudEyeDoo,[p]Last camping trip we were on, I did an 8.5 lb bone-in pork butt that went a total of 18 hrs to get to 200° internal, but at about 16-17 hrs, I had to add a little more lump to finish it off. Dome temp was 250°. I had filled to almost the top of the fire ring. Longest cook I've done on my small and fed quite a few hungary campers![p]Tonia
