<p />I was at the local grocer friday morn and saw these plump fat frog legs, and they hopped right into my cart. The highlight of the day was the new cashier (first time she worked in a grocery store) who took two steps back gasping for air with a shocked look on her face when she saw the package. She seemed comforted when I explained the meat has a mild flavor, and wonderful texture....but as I walked out the door I heard her telling the other cashier "that guy just bought frog legs...eeeewwww![p]So I got home and wasted no time. Oiled em up, shook on some rub, and threw them on a hot small egg. Here is a few more pics.[p]FrogLegsOnGrill.jpg

  • BeerMike, that's "Frog-gigging", which calls up memories of old...My Grandad was a professional with a rifle, you could say that because the annual county fair that had prizes for that stopped letting him compete, (this is back when real guns were used). He also was know to have called a mans bluff and got him to throw up his pocket knife and shot a hanle off one side. He quail hunted with a 22 and said it was easy and besided it didn't put shotgun pellets in em if he did it that way and was suppose to have even downed two one time with one shot. Him and his cousin had a side business hunting wolves, bears and such that was attacking peoples farm animals and would travel a long ways off for pay to hunt em down. It was during the depression when they did all this and also trapped and sold furs. He was a combination Cherokee Indian and Irishman...Why did I go off on this...I don't know except it makes me feel better I guess and that I wanted to tell you he would use his 22 to shoot his frogs while most people use a "gig" (a spear or sorts I guess, I've seen em and they usually have more than one prong). Hope you enjoyed the story , it's all true

Chet, ah yes "giggin" brings back some good boyhood memories. I used to go frog gigging with my country cousins. We did it more for fun than the meat, but my uncle loved our late night expeditions around the ponds. [p]Now my cousins loved to mix in frog gigging with "snipe hunting" for first timers. Never saw, caught or tasted a snipe. ;) I wonder if anyone has a recipe?
