Has anyone tried to cook with wood from a bradford pear tree? If so how did it turn out?

  • Dan,
I have a Peach tree, one of those '4 in 1' types and each season when I prune the peach tree back, I use the wood for smoke. I don't think you would have a problem with using the wood from your pear tree. Others may say different and I am no expert on this.[p]I say give it a try. You may want to season the wood first by letting it dry naturally. Raise off the ground and let sit covered lightly for about 6-8 months minumum.[p]Banker John

    Dan,
the guide I have - though Banker John has given a testimonial - is pear imparts a nice subtle smoke flavor, much like apple. Excellent with chicken and pork.

    <p />Dan,
They make small pears, not commonly eaten, but they grow like weeds on every street median in Tarrant County, TX. [p]Probably good if seasoned well. [p]Small thread on Ray Basso's BBQ Forum:[p]
PS.. looks like thay make nice bowls too!
