Windows 7/Office XP
The Naked Whiz

I'm moving the Naked Whiz publishing empire from XP to 7. I'm cheap, so I'm trying to move my Office XP to the 7 machine. For the most part, it all works. I've figured out that Microsoft Agent isn't shipped in 7 and so I've obtained the hotfix to install the Microsoft Agent components. As far as I can tell now, I have only one problem: Using Outlook (not express), I have two email servers configured and I've entered the correct POP and SMTP servers, and I've entered the correct ID and password for each one. I've clicked the checkbox that says "remember the password". But no matter how many times I go back and check the checkbox, it will not remember the passwords if I close Outlook and come back in. Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Doug

Check the Windows Defender and see if it is somehow preventing outlook from storing the password..

Dang, I should just remember to call you, lol! Ok, what is Windows Defender? Is that new in W7?
Thanks!

May not be related to Windows 7. Outlook just released a hotfix 2 or 3 days ago that has caused that problem with a lot of Outlook users.
Have you tried deleting and recreating the accounts? It may even require deleting the profile and starting new - just be sure you have a full archive of all your messages and contacts. -
Deleting the accounts should have any connection to the messages in folders and contacts, right? But I can certainly save them. I did create these accounts from new on the new computer. I didn't somehow migrate that info from the old computer. Worst comes to worst, I'll enter the damn passwords, lol, but it would nice.....The Naked Whiz

When in doubt I will always do a "cold boot", that is, start the computer from scratch. I even unplug the machine before restarting it so no power is getting to it at all. That way I will have the cleanest boot possible. More then once I was pleasantly surprised when I restarted the computer that the problem had been resolved.
It's sort of a off the wall tactic but it sometimes helps.
Good luck,
Gator

Looks like you need to upgrade Office XP

Sort of a fix here (don't close Outlook):

You could move to Windows Mail instead since it looks like the rest of Office XP works. -
Yes It's a built in protection thingy..

Window's Mail is a mere subset of what Outlook can do..

I agree, but it will check his mail and save his password for free. -

Maybe a mismatch with Office XP and win 7, need to up grade to Office 2003, real simple fix doing that. Now I never want to remember passwords on any emails, as sometimes I do not want it sent as I might have given it a second thought. As long as Outlook is up and running it will hang onto the password till it closes.

Whiz, what account are you using when you boot the computer up, XP wouldn't remember passwords using the "Owner" account. I don't know if this is tied in with Office as you said you are now using 7. But you might try either changing the name of the account your using and or making a new account and then re-enter your e-mail accounts. I know this sounds crazy, but give it a shot. Best of luck.
