Pizza stone to large?
I just purchased a medium egg with a pizza stone. The stone is 14" diameter and blocks the flow of air. I couldn't maintain a high temperature (above 400F) unless I removed it.
I tried to use the stone to create indirect heat and roast a chicken. I am going to get a deflector, but am still worried that the stone is the wrong size for the medium egg.
Did I get the wrong stone? I think there's a 12" version.
Thanks for your help.

I don't cook a lot of pizza but, I have a large egg and a large pizza stone that is 14" in diameter.
I don't have a medium egg but, I would guess that 14" large pizza stone is to big for your medium egg.
Here is the link to the eggcessories. Hope this helps. Tim

I have a Med. use the platesetter and a med. baking stone. They make a superior matched set for pizza, breads and cookie baking. I haven't measured the size lately, but see your egg selling dude / dudette at your egg store. Smiles to you.

Yes,the medium pizza stone is 12"

BGE calls their 12" pizza stone a "medium." It works fine for baking pizza in our Small but it is too big to use as a heat deflector. Based on the relative sizes of the Eggs I'd guess that the same would be true of the 14" pizza stone in a Medium. I use a 9" stainless pot lid on the GrateMates Ring as a heat deflector in the Small. Using the same scaling would mean an 11" heat deflector in a Medium. (I use the same 12" pizza stone as a heat deflector in our Large.)

I've cooked pizza on the 14" stone on the medium. No problems with temps, but since the stone overhangs the platesetter so much, the crust was done before the toppings were. Had to finish in the broiler to get the toppings done. I plan on getting the 12" stone so I can do pizzas on the medium.
The 14" does stress the gaskets on the medium, which is no problem for my rutland gasket, but I think it would fry the standard gasket. -
Just thinking if a person could use a 5/8 masonary bit and put some well placed holes in that used 14" stone to let some heat and air get by. Just a thought. Tim :side:
