Saw my 1st Primo Ceramic Grill - Not impressed

I was at the local fireplace store today and ran across (never knew of) the 'Primo Jr' Grill.
Looks a lot like a BGE if it was Green, but only from a few feet away. The top didn't seal very well. The hinge did little to help in lifting the top, and when you closed it didn't seem to set it down firmly. The Oval shape was interesting, but I'd be worried about heat distribution, and the vent at the bottom was about as easy to move as the shift lever on my 1st car that has lost all the synchro's. The vent at the top had a lot less adjustability than the daisy wheel. Seemed very poorly built compared to the Egg.

don't kid yourself ... primos work every bit as well as green eggs. ...and the ovals hold a ton of meat . . .its what caused bge to finally put out the XL. . .while i don't personnally own one, i've been around them plenty over the past 9 years and they cook up food every bit as well as any other ceramic cooker with excellent results. . .now, having said that, their following isn't nearly as big, their customer service isn't nearly as good, and their forum isn't nearly as good . . .

Hey Max, did you recieve anything from us?

Very well put Max, I visit their forum now and then as I miss some that used to post here and I'm sure you know the all of the regulars. (Char Wood, King of Coals, Ask A Butcher, etc)
But this is home for me.
Love being here in Eggland,
Cheers,
Bordello -
their forum was good until they changed it to one of those newer box type forums you see recommended here every so often. alot of the older primo folks were once eggers. :ermm:fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

fishlessman,
Some still are. Lot of good cooks used to hang out over there, after they left here.

I agree. Sure has been a lot of push for it. Ever try and follow a thread on BBQBrethren?

thers an ice fishing forum i follow thats similar, lots of good tips and helpful folks, but hard to follow and the way its laid out seems to provoke people as its sometimes hard to see who is replying to who, every post almost needs to have things quoted or you cant follow the darn thingfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

Yeah,
I've seen more than a few arguments start and couldn't figure out who dissed who. :laugh:Steve

I shouldn't get too down on them, after all, many of the cooks here own them they just choose not to talk about it on the forum. You would be very surprised if you knew a few of the folks on this forum that owned them.
And, as stated above, most of those guys in the Primo forum came from here and they also own BGE's all over the place. There is some great talent in both rooms
I've always thought the BGE vs Primo was a wasted argument. We're both ceramic!
How about we get over the "us" vs "them" and go cook something?
PS I would LOVE to own a Primo Jr. even maybe one of their big'uns' if I had the cash to blow and the people to cook for. -
Bob,
Ronbeaux was my favourite. That man could cook, well probably still can.

I debated long and hard before buying my Lge, both cook very well, main factors were support, I liked this forum better ( more friendly help for a newbee), and price. I went for the bigger name with the smaller price tag. That being said, I have absolutely no regrets "Luv my BGE :woohoo: :woohoo: "
