I really don't need to be convinced, but......please convince me. Been using a Brinkman Smoker with a side fire box.....ready to buy something newer. There is a over a $ 500.00 diffrence between the two. Is the EGG really worth it? Thanks

paul, unless you are prepared to give up your current lifestyle it is not advisable to buy an egg.You will have neighbors wanting you to cook their food on your egg; you will quit going out to eat because your egg produces much better meals. You will not consume as many beverages at meals because Egged food is so much more moist than you are used to.You will find youself standing in the cold and rain cooking on your egg when you could be inside.BUT, on the other hand, you will not believe the difference in how AWESOME Egged food tastes!!The EGG, the greatest invention ever [p]

paul,[p]I had a Brinkmann offset that I used both at home and in competition. Shortly after I got tired of the rigors of competing I gave in to a buddy's nagging and bought my first Egg. Two months after that I bought the second Egg. A year later I sold the Brinkmann - after my first cook in an Egg, the Brinkmann just sat in the yard looking lonely and unloved.[p]The Egg does it all: low and slow, 750° grilling, even baking. And on those low and slows, I don't have to get up every hour or so to make sure the temperature is what I need.[p]Ken

paul,
You dont need to be "Sold"...read the forum..read the archives..if you cant come to a legitimate reason on your own then maybe you shouldnt buy a BGE, to many people ask to be "convinced" to buy..it` a big decision..READING this forum sold me before ever eating anything cooked on an egg...you need to do the research to determine if it is something you want to spend your money on..if not..I have several things I will be willing to sell you and anyone else that doesnt want to do the the reseaerch...many things in life are worth the effort..the Egg is definately one of them..[p]Wess

paul,
Hi Paul and welcome,
I too had a hard time and was looking at the S.S. gas grills but when I saw the egg I was hooked without knowing it, didn't buy it, was still shopping the gas ones.[p]Found the forum by accident and lurked for some time, decided all of these people have to be nuts and I would fit right in. LOL[p]That was about 2 years ago and I being single and am kind of kook at times, now have 3 eggs and I don't know how many gadgets. I don't need all the gadgets but I like them.[p]Maybe post on the forum where you're at and someone might let you drop by and see one in action.[p]A slight learning curve but the forum members are here to help.[p]Good Luck with whatever you get and stick around.[p]Cheers,
New Bob

paul, Bite the bullet and buy the thing. I have been cooking outdoors for over 45 years on everything from an open fire to a big pull behind cooker and have found that a not so perfect egg cook is better than the best I have done on the others.

paul,
I to have used smokers and other grills for a long time. Can remember the horrors of smoking turkeys when the outside temps drop. I have had mine 1st egg since december, looking at buying a second. not to be to crude but after you cook on an egg, you will spit on your brinkman and throw it off da porch.

paul,Paul, Paul, let me tell you a little story. My Dad has owned a dozen smokers. He has the smoker you describe. We gave him an egg for Christmas. 1 cook and he was ready to swear it was the best he'd ever owned. I doubt he'll use the other one again.[p]Pull the trigger. Get to know your butcher.

paul,
You can't go wrong..........I just wished I had known early about the "EGG".

Paul, I bought my Med BGE on Jan. 15th and I am already kicking myself in the _ _ _ b/c I did not buy the large BGE. I started out w/ a simple pork roast, next J-Slot's Ribs (brought a full slab to my butcher a/f they were done), then pork chops, then beef short ribs - not the choicest cut of beef but they came out perfect, beef tender loin steaks, smoked bratwurst . . . tonight a sirloin tip roast. This thing is so damn fun it is unbelievable! My neighbor keeps pulling into my drive way telling me that he is starting to wonder about "me and that grill." I have been out cooking on the egg during many of the coldest days of the winter, -35 one day with the wind chill, the other days average 10-18 below without the wind chill. Get the picture. I was, and I emphasize "was", an avid gas griller. This forum speaks for itself - if ever there was a direct pipeline of information on "how to" this is the epitomy of one. I could go on - buy one if you have the time to spend with it and buy the big one b/c you will be sorry if you don't.
