Fire Bricks and Tile

First...Happy Thanksgiving to all and your loved ones.

I'm finalizing my table plan but need some help and advice on something. The plan is to use a paver with firebricks to sit my egg on...but my table is going to be closed on 3 sides with an open front. Now - so I don't burn the table and deck down :-) what tiles or brick should I use to cover the sides? Lowe's showed me a procelain tile that was fire resistant up to 1100 degrees!

Any advice on tiles others have used to line the cooker area would be appreciated.

Thanks and good cooking to all -

Jimmy

I used a piece of sheet metal as a heat shield on my enclosed table and the sides don't get hot at all. You shouldn't need much more than that.

Jimmy, I used 12x12 concrete pavers under my egg for years, never had any trouble, they work great, shown in the first 2 shots, you can get them at Home Depot or Lowes for a couple bucks each. When I upgraded the setup I used fire bricks for the area under the egg, also works great:

  • You guys are so sexy :-) ....thanks for the help. I just left Lowe's a little while ago and found some Porcelain tiles that are fire treated up to 2200 degrees! The sales person said I would not have any problems and if I did - to come back and see him.

I'm going to use firebricks on the bottom...then try these porcelain tiles on the sides. I guess we'll see. Hey - if you see a huge cloud of smoke coming from the north end of Lake Lanier...send help. Most likely it's the house! :-)

Now (in just a matter of seconds) - I'm thinking of adding a section to the other side of the table for a mini. Wife just said it was cute...that's a "get it honey" when translated to man terms. Right?

Be good and not too many Turkey "sammiches" the next couple of days.

Jimmy, your wife is right, & your interpretation of her statement is accurate near as I can tell, so go get one, quick. I've got the mini tucked into it's own chamber, pops out when needed:

  • Zippy - that's a nice set up! I've driven myself crazy today on the back deck with designs...moving furniture around...etc. Man - this BGE stuff and designing will make you crazy acting.

BTW - went through the "it's cute" statement with the wife again to be sure. Of course - I didn't mention buying...just asked if being cute was good. Well - her "yes" says buy it to me!
