Crazy to leave Egg unattended?

So I have to work an overnight shift 10pm -7 am Fri-Sat. I am planning on cooking a brisket for Saturday. I came up with brilliant idea of putting brisket on before work, make sure temp is stable, and then leaving, taking away any temptation to lift lid AND also having brisket done at reasonable time Saturday (8lb packer cut btw).

Told a buddy of this plan. He said it was crazy to leave cooker unattended. I sung the praises of the steady temperature Egg, etc.. But he did get me thinking. Crazy? Dangerous? Thoughts?

That is one of the best things about the egg. If you have someone that you can get to check the temps periodically it is better but you are good to go. I believe that the egg should be o a fireproof surface or a bbq mat.

I believe it's safe, I leave mine go all the time. I do sometimes have temperature drops or spikes but they are pretty mild. I wouldn't worry about it being a hazard.

I do it all the time. I do cheat though. I use a digiQ2.
I have had the fire go out one time in 2 years.

The egg does a really nice job of maintaining temps, and if you build your fire well and get your temps stabilized and locked in, it could potentially cruise along fine the whole day. How close is your cooker to the house?

If your eggs clean and you are using quality lump, get it stable (45 min) then roll

You'll be in great shape a huge majority of the time.

It will be on a back brick patio at least 5 feet from the house.

BTW, Chris I had hoped to have my Dizzy Pig order in time for the cook, but I ordered too late. Just gives me an excuse to do it all over again when my rubs get here.
