a question from a non-board member:

I was looking over Mad Max's turkey and gravy narrative on the Naked Whiz and it says to allow 6.5 to 7 hrs @ 325 indirect of cook time. The bird was 21 lbs. Seems a little long to me but I don't want (wife) pacing the floor waiting for the bird to be done.

I like his ice bag on the breast just before the cook idea...purpose is to have the breast and thigh done at the same time.

I have been cooking turkeys outdoors for close to 50 years (Wife)has never used the oven) and have never been satisfied with my ability to estimate the cook time...it is done when it is done which sometimes doesn't go too well with prep on the rest of the meal.

We have a 24 lb bird. How much cook time would you allow?
