what does a prime rib sub-primal weigh?
RRP
Posts: 26,481
Now that my refrig bottom shelf has room I'm thinking ahead and foresee the future need for a prime rib meal to serve this Christmas for 4 prime rib lovers. Seeing that I want to age it for 28 days or better I wonder how big are those sub-primals. I don't have a clue where to find that out tonight. Thanks in advance!

Ron, I wonder if a bone in one will fit in the bag, the boneless one barely went in. -RP

Ron,
This is a SWAG (Scientific Wild Assed Guess), but the three rib roasts I've done are about 6 pounds.
I believe a full rib roasts are 7 ribs, so I would estimate 14 or 15 pounds.
Sounds like fun.
I will be hitting you up for details on your foodsaver drybag sealing methods as soon as the bags show up and I procure a rib primal cut. From what I gather, you cut a 4.5 inch section of standard FS material and inserted it inside the drybag for the seal with some tweaking to the FoodSaver settings????

a boneless one in a large bag was a problem? Oh boy! Guess I've gotten spoiled buying boneless ones when I need them from my favorite local butcher!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time
