My contest chicken and the egg

This past weekend I went to the Kansas City BBQ Society awards banquet. While I didn't get any major awards I did finish tied for 8th place in chicken out of a few hundred cooks.
Here's the real story though. In 2002 I finished in the teens, twenties and thirties in pork, brisket and ribs but well over 100th in chicken. I decided that my chicken needed an overhaul.
I made two changes. I switched from legs to thighs and I switched cookers. I sometimes started my chicken on my pellet cooker because it was already going but I always finished it on my egg.[p]The thing I plan to switch this year is to get some other catagories cooked on the egg.[p]Thanks guys.[/b]

That's a big improvement, Ray. What do you think was the big difference was? Texture? Taste? Lookin' forward to havin' a few drinks with ya' in Lakeland. Sounds like we will have a fair number of Eggers visiting. Have you heard how many teams are committed? I haven't received any paperwork.[p]Frosty Ones!

Hi Jim,
I like the flavor of the lump and the nice high direct grilling spot with the raised grid. [p]I haven't heard anything but I probably will this weekend. We'll be cooking out front of some Publix stores. They usually have aroiund 40-50 and another 40-50 backyard teams. I'm not sure what they are saying but we usually start setting up Thursday.
