Photobucket observation and question

Has anyone else been having problems with the numerous pop-up ads that Photobucket has started selling in earnest? Sometimes I have to "close" them 5 or 6 times to get them to go away, but most times once will do it. I'm only using 11% of my allowed free capacity, but if becoming a paying user makes the ads go away I'll gladly pay.

Just checked and did encounter some pop-ups. They closed with one click but reappeared each time I changed the page.. 8 - (

    RRP,

My "Pro" subscrption just expired and it is terrible. I don't remember it being that bad before i got the pro. I can't even use the bulk unloader anymore.

  • I haven't been on photobucket in a few days, but I will not be paying for the service just to stop the ads. There are plenty of other photo services out there. Photobucket makes money off the existing ads that were there, and that money is presumably tied to the number of hits their site gets. If the new popup ads cause people to leave photobucket, they'll lose money. I'm sure there are plenty of other disgruntled photobucket users. There's probably a user forum on photobucket. Add your voice to their list. Personally, I won't validate their tactic by paying them to not show me ads. I'll just take my pageviews elsewhere.

    Morning RRP,

Yes, the pop-up ad's at Photobucket are annoying at best. It seems like they are triggered by:
    [ol]1) Opening the page.
    2) Rolling your mouse over the ad to the left of where you up load your images.[/ol]
I have found that if you click anywhere on the page where it does not matter the ad's close making them very easy to get rid of. You do not have to actually close the ad itself. By keeping my mouse away from any ad's on the page seems to keep them from coming back and you can work as usual. I hope this helps, I found them frustrating at first also. Now they do not bother me and if it keeps Photobucket free and providing as much space as they do I do not mind.

FWIW, Flickr's free version doesn't have popups...yet anyway. I haven't tried a slideshow there so I don't know if it would work on this forum, but pics seem to work ok (except for the occasional user error).

I have no idea whether this will work, but I'll try a Flickr slideshow now...

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

  • I run into the same problem and it is annoying, but that's one of the prices you pay for "free."

If you do decide to use another service don't cancel your Photobucket account because all the photos you posted will lose the link to them.

I've noticed it too! I pay to use Smugmug to post my photos for friends and family to access. I think I'll check to see if I can use that for the forum.
  • Ron it's worth $24.95 for more speed and no pop ups

  • Ron... When I opened Photobucket a couple of hours ago I did so in a separate tab. I immediately got a Chase Bank popup but clicked it away. The Photobucket site has been open all this time so I thought I would check to see if I got any more popups by clicking on the tab or by uploading a photo.

    Not a single popup.

Could be you can open it up and let it do its thing until the popups are done and you won't be bothered again.
