I have read it mentioned here for cleaning the daisy wheel, and seem to have read in the past you can clean things like the trays and grills on your stovetop the same way ( burnt on black stuff )....using ammonia...does anyone have any experience with how exactly this is done....I "think" you dont actually immerse the items more like float em in the fumes...but I obviously aint sure...any advice would be greatly appreciated...[p]Wess

WessB,[p]I think it was BlueSmoke who puts his daisy wheel top in a container with ammonia and puts an airtight lid on it so it can soak overnight before giving it a good rinse.[p]Cheers,[p]Ed

WessB,[p]What matters most to me right now....is how to get dog wiz outta my plate setter..that might not be the worst of my problems though (surprise surprise)..cause I figured I'd just go out there, bring it into the kitchen and wash the darn thing off..but silly old me..had to go and put it in the egg the other day..for fear that devil spawned dog ..who obviously has something against me, my plate setter, and my nice white snow covered yard..would come back and wiz on the darned thing..again..now..the darned egg is frozen shut again...with a wiz covered plate setter inside..and me..well..I discovered ..I'm..all out of swear words AND fire starters...not that I'd even want to start a fire under there..what with that wiz covered plate setter sittin in there..good god man...is there no hope for the Stump ?[p]StumpBaby

    WessB,
I've been the advocate of the full submersion in household ammonia for an overnight bath for some time - just make sure you seal the container even if it is with nothing more than Saran Wrap. In the morning rinse and brush under running water...be sure to not breathe the fumes and use rubber gloves.
BTW the method using fumes that you mention is how you age unfinished oak that was made very popular during the Craftsman period. While "fuming" will turn oak a golden dark brown I'm afraid it won't do diddly in cleaning Miss Daisey

RRP,[p]Ok, I got the name wrong. It was RRP who used the ammonia as bubble bath, not BlueSmoke. Whoops! [grin][p]I'm going to have to try that method myself.[p]Cheers![p]Ed

    GrillMeister,
I wondered who was a-peekin' last time me and Mr. Ducky was paddlin' in the tub... <grin>[p]On the more serious side, a "3-pound" (well, they Used to be 3-pounds) coffee can with plastic lid serves the purpose very well.[p]Ken

beth,[p]Gee thanks...man alive..as if that whole story wasn't bad enough...I just went out to do as Wess suggested with the drop light..only to realize that the last time I went out..thinking I had some firestarters left..I had left the top off of the egg...when I came inside and realized I had no more firestarters..I never went back out to close it all up...instead deciding to go down to my woodshop..where I proceeded to cut the brand new legs of my latest project (a pair of solid birch deacons benches)..to entirely the wrong size..and to make matters worse...now that I decided that i'd go back and try Wess' idea...having had my fill of wood dust and shop appropriate cus words...I now realize it's been rainin down the center of my egg the entire time...I think maybe it's time to either drink till I taste my esophagus..or start sniffin airplane glue...I'm just afraid to choose...[p]honey..how tall did you want those benches ?[p]StumpBaby..pork butt still in the fridge...

WessB,[p]I've been using the overnight, ammonia soak technique for years. Works like a champ and doesn't remove any paint. Ms. Daisy will come out looking and working brand new.[p]K~G

    StumpBaby,
I don't often offer advise but in you sad case of events,
Do Both, one drink, one sniff, one drink, one sniff. Soon you will have the rhythm down and your troubles will be over. LOL[p]At least till you recover.[p]Cheers,
    Hope it works out.[p]New Bob
