please help!
just purchased the three tier rack and am aware that the 2 inch ring should be used instead of my 4 inch fire ring. i use a plate setter and wanted to know could i just omit the ring altogether and place the plate setter in top of the fire box and then the tree tier set up? if not, why? thanks, and forgive my ignorance. -r

I have had the 3 tiered since '06 and use it infrequently. I do use the 2" fire ring and don't know why your idea won't work. try setting it up with no heat.

no, it is the fixed porcelain covered one. i chose that one because i felt that it was extremely sturdy and i can leave in the egg and burn off any residue, ie: self clean. -r

I tried using my platesetter on top of the firebox with no fire ring,When it got hot it expanded and I could'nt budge it til the next day when it cooled.I would not do it again for fear of cracking my egg.

I have the same . . .used it once and found that in order to flip items on middle & lower grid is a minor PITA . . . But have been thinking it might be a good way to get a raised grid effect, but haven't tried it yet.aka marysvilleksegghead
