Hi everybody!
I've had my eye on the BGE since the Pachinko house days when I came down to Atlanta to go to college. Finally decided to scratch the itch after 30+ years. I went to my first Eggtoberfest this weekend and came home with an XL.
In the morning, my wife and I walked into the BGE store and when she saw the size of the grill that I had pre-ordered, she gave me one of those "looks" -- half of the wife's communications to me, it seems, are non verbal! She seemed to be asking me: "Why do we need such a monster of a grill? That thing is huge!!!" (we are empty nesters, you see -- and it is just the two of us).
Well, you all did a FINE job of convincing her that I had not gone completely insane. When we were back in the store at the end of the day to pick up a few eggcessories before jumping on the bus to get the truck to pick up my grill --- she was pointing out additional racks and items that I "needed"!!! Somehow we went from "That thing is way too big!", to "Maybe we need more rack space, honey".
Seriously, everybody was very helpful and your passion for the cooking and the tools (the Egg!) was very obvious and significantly helped "the cause" and made me even more excited to get the thing home and fire it up!
First meal was baked potatoes, roasted corn, and ribeye steaks.
Thanks,
Don

Welcome to the family. Just be careful around the occasional crazy "uncle" AND "aunt"
-
Common. They didn't do that good a job. If they did, you would have gone home with 2!
Welcome just the same and congradulations. My wife thought I was nuts too when I bought mine. By next weekend your wife will be placing cook orders. Trust me. -
Well congrats on the new egg and for being able to win her over BEFORE you cooked!
-
Give her a few meals and she will say what my wife is now saying......."I don't cook anymore!

A very similar story for me. It's just the wife and me and we bought an XL three years ago. Saturday I cooked 250+ sliders! It's addictive.
The reason you need an XL is because of all the "friends" you didn't know you had!
Congratulations and welcome to the family.

welcome aboard! It's just the two of us also and iffin you really have convinced her you'll be buying a companion egg in no time! You would find that a small is a great addition to have when you don't want to fire up all that real estate for just 2 or 4 steaks.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Welcome Don!! We like pictures!!

I love it when a plan comes together. A couple more cooks and she will order you a small!

I can take a hint!
Photo taken just after I closed the egg after removing the electric starter. I should have waited a few more minutes to catch the smoke.
The glass of amber on the table is the result of another hobby of mine -- I homebrew.
Unfortunately, I didn't take a shot of the finished product... Next time!
