Cooking setup when using plate setter

Unknown
edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
As part of my BGE suprise gift, my wife secured a place setter for me. My question is this: Two nights ago, while cooking a whole chicken on the BGE, I found that, with the place setter in the non-direct position (inverted)and the grid on top, there was not enough room for the chicken under the dome. I was using the vertical chicken roaster. What I did was to remove the grid and place the chicken and the drip pan directly on the place setter. Is this okay, or am I going to damage the place setter? Advise.

first, you can't do much to damage the plate setter. .its a pretty tough piece of ceramic, although when its really cold, i bring it inside and run it under hot water to make sure a fast temp change doesn't make it crack (don't know if its really necessary, but i do it anyway). .. and it won't hurt it to put the drip pan and chickens directly on it. ..[p]now, i'm not sure why your chicken won't fit under the dome with grid raised over inverted setter. .. i do four beer but chickens at a time in this exact mode, on grid over inverted setter, and they always fit just fine. . .i do have to be careful to place them in a way that the dome temp thermometer won't stick into one of them, but its not a big deal .. . .how tall is that vertical roaster you're usin?[p]

    Smilinguy,
I often do mine that same way, no grid but have also been able to so them sitting on grid. If the thermometer hits I just put clip on the outside to hold from going in too far.
I usually cook them on my large egg.[p]Cheers,
