Many Mini Questions

My bride is thinking about getting me something for Christmas to go with my large BGE and I was thinking about suggesting a mini or a small. I think I want a mini to take to NCSU football tailgates. The questions are these ...[p]How big, exactly, is a mini? Is it big enough to cook a decent meal for the two of us (since the kids are mostly not home anymore)? Will it handle 2 or 3 big ol' honkin' hamburgers or a dozen wings? Can you do anything close to a low/slow on a mini? Can I do baby backs if I cut the racks in half/thirds?

  • FatDog,
I don't think you'll have any problem with the burgers or wings, but a low/slow I sort of doubt. Unless you like adding lump a lot. I'll let the others with more experience chime in on that. I use my Mini primarily for short, high temp cooks. I would advise you to lose the stock BGE thermometer on the Mini and get a short stemmed one from the "P" brand competitor. The long stemmed BGE one is much too big IMHO for the Mini.[p]Kelly Keefe

    FatDog,
On my website, in the "Cooks" section you can see a couple of steak cooks I have done on the mini...at one of the Eggfests in Waldorf soome one did a whole tederloin on one ( I believe it was a beef tenderloin but honestly dont remember ) YB has a pic I`m sure he will throw in here where he has some 24 wings on a mini at once...someone here on the forum has mentioned taking a rack of ribs and rolling them and pinning or tying them, I have never tried this, but it would allow them to fit on the mini...as far as low and slow, I dont think it would be extremely difficult but you would not get an overly long cook you would have to devise some means of creating indirect..and with the recent mention of the daisy wheel for the mini it got a little easier....others will certainly add to this...[p]Wess
