Rib Rub and BBQ Sauce???

Just tried the 3-1-1 method of cooking the ribs and it was awesome. Not knowing a good rub for ribs, I just used a few cajun spices (I think they're good on everything); Slap ya Momma and Tony Ketchers. Then I just used some Sweet Baby Ray's. I really enjoyed the flavor as did my test monkeys. What other rubs and sauce should I try?

    I have used dizzy pig dust, cabellas kc rub, a local bbq places rub called 17th street, bad byrons, hogs in heat and blue hogs the only one i did not like on ribs is the bad byrons. It was a little hot for my taste.
    As far as sauces I only use sweet baby rays and kc masterpiece.

    Dizzy Dust is great stuff on ribs, but my favorite is JH Pecan with Blues Hog for the last half-hour or so.

    I agree. Pecan rub chased by Blues Hog is hard to beat. I still do a slab or two in SBR every once in a while.
  • Where can I pick up some Blues Hog. Can't find at Kroger.
  • Lucky for you !!! Having 17th street 'local' would be the best!!! We are big Mike Mills fans. Use their magic dust from time to time ... like it mixed in with brisket as well.

    no, you won't find it at Kroger - it has pretty limited distribution outside of the state of MO. OTOH here's an internet source that has quite reasonable S & H prices. You might look the site over as they carry an extensive array of other tools and rubs as well.

    Since you're in MO keep an eye out for Stick Pig products. They are similar to Blue's but personally I find them to be better - especially the Jalapeno one which has a pleasant twang!

    I personally like Billy Bones Competition rub (green label) mixed half and half with his XXX Cherry Rub.

    For a quick but tasty sauce, I like to take a commercial sauce like Sweet Baby Rays, mix it with an immersion blender half and half with cherry preserves.
