small egg temp suggestion
For those having difficulty reaching high temps with the small egg-I light my charcoal different for each type of cook. Start your lump low if looking for high temps or on top for lower temp cooks. This might explain why some are having to wait quite a while before the temps get up to searing level. The easiest and fastest way to obtain high temps is you start your lump in a chimney style starter - once glowing - empty into firebox and top with additional lump if needed. Grilled bone in ribeye for dinner tonite - had small egg up to 750+ in about 15-20 minutes. Give it a try - Hope it helps...

Cayela,
Using Mapp gas to start the lump in the small Egg will get the temp up there just as fast. It's the greatest thing since whipped cream (a personal favorite).
