Egg nest question-advice needed

A buddy of mine is buying a large from BBQ Galore. For the time being, he's getting a nest. They told him they would "bolt" the egg into the nest and said he could lay down the egg with nest bolted in place for the 3 mile trip home.[p]His questions: is it safe to lay it down; how will it be bolted into place?[p]Any input will be greatly appreciated. He is to pick it up Sunday.
Thanks!

    Shelby,
The only way I see they could bolt it to the nest would be to drill holes through the egg and the nest....not sommething I would want done to mine...and I also would not recommend laying it down, there would be a lot of forces at work on the hinge, in directions it wasn`t intended for...if that makes an6y sense..[p]Wess

  • Shelby,[p]For about $10 in wood, he can build a Egg Transporter. I've built one for my Large and one for my small. The large one comes in handy to help folks I persuade to buy eggs in getting them home or to take mine to eggfests.[p]The link below shows how I did it and includes diminsions for my small. I'm out of town till tonight, but I'll be glad to post the diminions of my large crate if you want.[p]Cheers,[p]GrillMeister

  • Shelby,
I went the other way with mine. Instead of trying to hold everything together, I took it apart. Unscrew the hinge band from the egg (one nut/bolt). That will enable you to take the lid off (with the hinge still attached to the lid). Take everything out (firebox/grate/grill/daisy). Seperate it all and put it back together when you get home. If you unscrew the bottom hinge band from the egg, you only have one nut and bolt to re-assemble. The rest of the pieces just lift out, which greatly reduces the weight you need to carry. Strap it in a seat with a seatbelt and go.
