Well, I thought I would post and thank everyone in the online BIG GREEN EGG world for some great recipes and encouragement. I bought my BGE at the BGE "factory" store about a month ago. I had looked into the BGE many years ago when I bought a TEC Infrared grill. Last year I bought a Oklahoma Joes traditional style smoker. Both had some strengths, but I wanted something that could do pizza and poultry very well. The more I researched, the more I wanted an egg.[p]On my 1st night after assembly, I made SPIN's pizza recipe. TIP for newbies, if you like your crust thin, his dough recipe is enough to make two thin crusts. I love the sauce recipe. On this 1st night, I used the full amount for one pizza. We had Chicago style pizza that night. I found it remarkable how well the BGE could be brought to and hold a nice stable temp. Also, noted how charcoal efficient it was.[p]Next night I made a chicken and everyone loved it. Anyway, without boring all of you, I have done two more chickens, the great wings recipe from the BGE cookbook (do use the fajita seasoning they specify as it is low sodium), I am now smoking some ribs on this for the 1st time. I did a rib roast last night that was out of this world (the salt encrusted one found in the BGE cookbook).[p]Anyway, I will report back as I learn and enjoy more.

  • ToyCollector,
I hope someone hasn't tag you with your forum name because of the egg. I got mine name due to the number of grills, smokers, cookers, etc. You will really enjoy this machine. Since you are a newbie, let me tell you about a couple of things you will find helpful: 1. go the nakedwhiz.com and read about flashbacks...2. Throw away the cookbook that came with the egg. Also go to nakedwhiz.com and download the wise one's cookbook. Others have sites you can go to and if you don't know or can't find, just ask here. You are now the proud owner of one of the finest cooking vessels ever made. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

  • toomanybbqgrls,[p]I happen to be on the Naked Whiz site right now-thanks for the tip on downloading the cookbook there. As of now, the ToyCollector alias is due to another "illness" ;-). BTW, you can't have too many bbq grills, can you? :-D

ToyCollector,[p]Wow...pizza on first try. I've had one for 5 years or more and still haven't tried a pizza. I'm very impressed! Welcome to the club. Good stuff here.[p]If you want something to knock your socks off that is very easy, try Mr. Toad's Pork Tenderloin (check the recipe section here). I've had a million of them and still go DAMN that's good every time I have one.[p]mShark

toomanybbqgrls,[p]I am one of those who thinks that there is no such thing as too many BBQ rigs. Tell us what ya got!![p]K~G

  • KennyG,
When I was named,I had a gasser, a weber, a brinkmann, a small camping stove, a cookshack, a couple of fryers, etc. Now down to a large, an oval, cookshack smokette, and two fryers. Unlike others, I got rid of the gasser rather than use it for storage. Patio can now be seen!
