20lb. turkey

edited November -1 in EggHead Forum
I'm cooking a turkey that weighs almost21 pounds on aigburt. maingrid, pizza stone, dip pan, raised grid-bird. Olive oil, salt, and black pepper. It fit very nicely, and I hope my neighbor and his family enjoy it. They asked if I would smoke a turkey for them, and I said yes. They brought Birdzilla. Pretty cool looking turkey so far.

    spineyone,
what temp setup are you using? 250? 350, 425 for the first 45?

  • haywyre, straight 350. Last year I did this and it tuned out to be the best turkey that I had ever eaten. (I don't like tukey that much really, but I went back for seconds). I'm also not sure that this is the best method. it is what is recomended from the turkey package, and last year on the bge users forum seemed to be one of the most popular mehdods. It worked very well bfore and am doing it again.
