Howdy folks. [p]I have a question for all of you. I just had my first heart attack scare and am looking to change my life style. But I can't give up my Egg!!! [p]The question is what are the leaner cuts of meat that I should look for? I was raised with the mentality that fat=flavor. Look for marbeling etc...[p]Well that has to change a bit and I know that this is the land of food experts so can anyone help out? Any and all information would be helpful.[p]Thanks alot and take care.

Walla Walla Boy,[p]Mark...sorry to hear you've had problems and glad to hear you are on the mend.[p]Pork tenderloins are relatively lean and so good and easy on the egg. Direct on a raised grid for 30-40 minutes at 300° - 325°.[p]Spatchcock chickens have very little fat, if you don't eat the skin. [p]Lotsa fish and shellfish ideas that could be done.[p]No need to give up your new egg...![p]Tonia

    Walla Walla Boy,
The pork "loins" I get from costco are very lean, you could stuff em or hack em into chops..the imagination is the limit...[p]Wess

    QBabe,
    Good suugestions!
Squid is righteous and very healthy! From what I understand, elk, bison, ostrich and most game animals are very lean as well. Alligator if you can get it! Frog legs. Salmon has fat, but it is a good fat high in Omega 3 goodstuff.[p]Oh, come to think of it, Farmer John in the Poconos was telling me his pasture raised chicken, beef and pork was not only lower in fat, but because of their natural diet they contained more good omega-3 fat. So pastured animals might be worth looking into.[p]Good luck Walla Walla Boy. Lots of options!
    Good weekend to you Tonia.

  • Walla Walla Boy,[p]Hey "my brother" we share the same problem and that is why I own a BGE. In fact, the heart attack is the reason I use the screen name LAD. Labor Day weekend, at 47, my LAD (lower arterial descending) or more commonly know as the "widow maker" plugged up and I had "the big one". I guess it was from eating the byproduct of those cheaper pits all those years! The doctor told me that I could continue to eat meat but it had to be BBQ'd or put on a “George Forman” so the fat dripped away. Since BBQing looked to be my only resort to any sense of normalcy I researched BBQing and ended up with the BGE. I justified the price and decided on the LARGE since my wife could bury me in it TOO! [p]Seriously, you have had a wake up call and you WILL have to make some changes, but I believe if you are truthful with yourself you will also find other areas of your life that need changing too. Weight, Smoking, Philandering, Stress etc.[p]From this point forward, everything in moderation...[p]well except for...[p]NO, that too! [p]Marty[p]P.s. Feel free to email me if there is anything I can do for you "my brother".

    Walla Walla Boy,
Check this out. I've order several times from them, and the beef is good. There are a number of such places available now. If the cows are grass fed only (no corn for fattening), the meat is what you want for your heart. i do it for mine. Enjoy.
