Moving to Florida?

Not me, but my son is considering it. He found a condo in on the west side of Orlando, but his research indicates that the crime rate in Orlando in general, pretty much sucks. Since I know a lot of egg-folk live in FL, I thought I'd ask what towns/cities you know of that are considered "safe".

Any info will be most appreciated! Thanks!!

Smaller cities in general tend to have lower crime rates but you are going to have bad areas wherever you go. Here in Pensacola is not bad in comparison to larger Florida cities but like every where else there are trouble areas.

Why? Is it a job transfer, just to get out of dodge, retirement? Have lived in Central Florida and Brevard since '77, if I knew what he was trying to accomplish, might be able to give better guidance.Also do real estate so understand the demographics.

Unfortunately today crime is everywhere. You just have to be careful in all surroundings. I lived in Orlando for 12 years and I never knew anyone who was murdered, robbed, beaten, mugged or raped.

I live in Citrus Co. Small communities, fairly safe, not ass touristy as other areas. It is the area where the manatees come into the spring fed rivers in the winter. Excellent fishing. Lowere cost of living than most other parts of the state. Gulf Coast, about 60mi. North of Clearwater/St. Pete. I love it, don't even lock my doors unless I'm going to be away more than a few hours.
