Hey Folks,
It's been months and months and months since last logging in and really have no excuse but I'm back.
Taking a 20 lb turkey out of the freezer tomorrow to Egg (large) over the holiday weekend.
Haven't done a turkey before so was interested in anyones tips, hints or dont's.
Thanks ahead for any responses,
Gordon

That's what I was looking for but couldn't find.
Would still like to hear if others have some definate dont's. -
Trust us do the Mad Max Turkey.. You will not be disappointed..

I'm thinking about doing up a turkey soon, maybe for (Canadian) Thanksgiving. Is a 20 lb turkey too big to fit on the grill in a large egg? I see in the pictures that Max put the pan on top of egg feet on the inverted plate setter; is that generally necessary?

Yes that set up is what works best...as Max suggests try the set up with the frozen turkey first so you know what you are dealing with on cooking day...

Bobby-Q from the mother ship posted this a few years back.
Turkey, Whole, BGE Size
INGREDIENTS:
1 The Small EGG will hold a 12 lb turkey.
2 The Medium EGG will hold a 18 lb turkey.
3 The Large BGE will hold a 20 lb turkey.
4 The XL BGE will hold 2 - 20 lb turkeys.

To me that suggests that a 20 lb turkey would fit on top of the grill on the plate setter.
As for trying the set up with the frozen turkey... that doesn't work so well if you don't have a frozen turkey to test with. -
Here is a 24 pounder all ready to close the lid. Fits just fine.
