North to Alaska Day 8
Spring Chicken
Posts: 10,255
For those of you who are still interested, here's Day 8 of our little Alaska adventure.
We arrived in Ketchikan early and left the same afternoon. It's the last Alaskan port for us.

Since there was little going on in Ketchikan we had time to do something on board our ship. Our tour guide arranged for us to have a tour of the ship's galley. I found it very interesting and informative.
We ended the day with a nice dinner at one of the on-board restaurants.

Thanks Spring for sharing. Went back to the train ride and thought that's a great way to see the Alaskan country. Your doin and great job of filming your trip and I feel like I'm right there on tour.

Enjoyed it immensely Leroy, thanks for sharing. Ketchikan may be small but it looks unique, a fun place to explore. I would have been right at home in the galley, I've washed dishes to pay the rent more then once. I actually enjoyed it, I used to get any ordering mistakes from the bar and kitchen and got to hang out with a great bunch of waitresses.
That's a great old maritime law, just to be safe I would have to have seconds on dessert, wouldn't want to offend anyone. :cheer:

Yes, I'm sure there's more to Ketchikan than we experienced in the few hours we were there. The shops along the creek were really nice.
The ship's Galley was quite impressive. Even more impressive was the steps they take to make sure everything is clean, especially from bacteria that could cause an on-board problem for both the passengers and the crew.
As for the desserts, they actually brought us a couple more that they were proud of. All were delicious. It's definitely a good maritime law LOL...

Leroy every day must have been unique.....any favourite day?? any place or activity?? TKS for sharing

Thank you. We actually had two train rides: an 8-hour ride from Denali to Anchorage on Alaskan Railroad (the domed cars), and about three hours on the White Pass & Yukon railroad from Skagway up the mountain about 20 miles. Both were fantastic.
One reason for filming all of this is so we can enjoy it anytime we want. Like you, we feel we are back there each time we see it.

Every day seemed to get better and better, but what we soon realized was that each day was just a new experience that stood on it's own.
If I had to say one day stood out more than the others it had to be the day we were in Juneau. First helicopter ride, first glacier walk, beautiful gardens and humpback whale sightings. All of that made for one heck-of-a great day.

Yeap...that was magnificent......oh and I must say the music couldn't be better.

Are you coming to Atlanta?
Hope so. We're looking forward to it.
In fact, we're Eggcited.

Thanks again Leroy. Being Saturday and all your thread has gotten a bit buried so here's a refresh post to bump it back up the list!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Thanks Ron.
That part about the ship's kitchen was interesting but I couldn't put it all in the video. Plus, most people don't care much about what goes on 'in' the kitchen, just what comes 'out' of the kitchen LOL
The next video will be some shots on board the ship as we sail to Vancouver. After that, I'll probably show some on board activities that were definitely worth the effort to photograph or video tape. Maybe they will bring a smile or two, or even a bit of laughter.
Then, maybe some photos of our day-long adventure in Vancouver while waiting for our late night flight back to Houston.
Actually, I'm doing all of this more for us than for everyone else. It's a great way to keep memories of our adventure. The fact that we are posting them on the Forum is so that people can get an idea of what is available if they decided to take the trip.
Glad you enjoyed it so far.

I didn't realize you were going. Keli and I were on the Golden Princess in June. Had a great trip, hopefully you and Judy did too.
I know what you mean about the runway. This was in Juneau
A few more from other ports.
