View Temps via Stoker/CyberQ with Blackberry

Living in MN, there are many days where I'd like to be free of the backyard but still want to savor what a ceramic cooker can bring to the table. Doing actual cooks isn't the problem, doing them stress free is. My goal would be to do whatever I am doing and to access what is going on in the pit and the meat remotely.

After searching the forum and looking at both BBQ Guru's and Rock's site, I cannot find what I am looking for and that is how easy this is to integrate to get onto some sort of web access so that I can view my pit via my cell phone internet connection. Is this possible? Is it easy? Does one do it better than the other?

I would also love to have extended leads on the fan and the temperature probes. Getting the control unit into the house instead of outside would be great for both connecting to the pc and also to keep it out of the elements. Is there any way to have 20ft leads on either unit? Even better would be to have a plug I could permanently install on the outside of my house to plug them into and the control inside.

I appreciate the help!

Sean

With the Stoker you can run a Cat 5 cable from the unit into your home and connect to a laptop or wireless router. With connection to a router poss are endless.
The Weber site has a forum for temp control devices and is full of good information as well as links to custom software for the Stoker.

I have not used the new BBQ Guru Cyber Q.

  • Thank you both for the links. Found what I needed on the Stoker in no time and read the manual for the Guru, but realized that will be more difficult.

It seems that others are already using the Stoker with a Blackberry and are not having any troubles. The USB interface for the Guru limits its internet functionality to a Remote Desktop connection which is a serious pain in the butt on the phone and not an acceptable solution.

I'd love a different work around if there is one.

--any thoughts on the extended leads to keep the controller inside?

I guess you could call rock's and find out how long he could make them. That would be some really long probes.

I bought the stoker with the same idea in mind. What I found out was the temps never moved, so you can check it all you want, but it doesn't really matter, unless you wanted to change the temp.
  • Changing it isn't as big of a deal as monitoring. I'd like to read the meat and pit temps from my boat, ice shack, the bar and really wherever I am. Makes it easier to make sure I time my return perfectly. I also know myself, if I have a temp gauge I'll look at it, so I'd prefer it in my pocket instead of getting up and running across the house every time I get the itch.

I've seen 10' leads and 20' will easily reach my basement (where my pc is) which I didn't think was that much further.
  • Has anyone actually done a web interface for the Guru yet? The one thing that would be easier for me with the CyberQ is fitting it to my grill as they have a door for the Viking C4, while there isn't an adapter for the Stoker.
