Thermapen
I have to get one or the other - I am sooo tired of my 2-minute "instant"!
And I'm picking up my new Large egg this evening! My first egg!

Michael
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I bought the sale one for $74 and love it.
I think you can remember to bring it inside when you are done.
I would buy that one and put the other $20 to a maverick et-73.
You will want to have both. -
Timex used to sell waterproof watches. Then they switched to water resistant watches. I was told the watches were made the same, but they would not have to warranty the few "water resistant" watches that ended up with water damage. I am GUESSING that this is the same reason the new Thermapens are only labled splash resistant. Why don't you buy one and throw it in the sink and test it for us. Sometimes you have to lean into the pitch and take one for the team.
My table sits on a patio that is covered, but when it is rainy and windy the table can get wet, so whenever I have my Thermapen outside I slide it into my Orka glove. I have gotten into the habit of always placing it in there, even when the sun is shining. -
get the splash proof one. i have three of the older ones and ive had to dry them before, even cleaning them with a damp sponge will get water in the older onesfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

Welcome to the Egg world, the thermapen is probably the single best tool in my arsenal. It never rains where I live so splash proof was never an issue, either way you go, the thermapen is a must have. -RP

Congratulations on getting your new egg, much fun to follow.
Make sure you calibrate the dome thermometer, there will/should be a sheet of paper regarding the procedure.
No one gets their thermapen wet or puts them in water intentionally. Accidents do happen. If I recall there are some other differences with the newer model. If money is an issue get the old model, if not in a few months the extra $20 won't mean much.

Thanks for the suggestions and comments. I decided on the newer model and will be sure to test it's water resistance in the sink! Take one for the team indeed!
Really looking forward to the new Egg!I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Congrats on your new EGG.
I agree with AZRP that it is at the top of my Eggcessories list. I think I paid well less than $74 for mine, though MollyShark.
Not sure why the water resistant model is needed. Just dont leave it in the rain. You dont leave your cell phone out there, or your laptop. Don't leave your Pen either.
Buy a few slabs of ribs this weekend with the extra $20 and break that bad boy in right.
Looking forward to more of your posts. -
I bought the old model discounted when the newer one came out. I just love it. You will be fine with either one.
Good luck to you and welcome to Egghead World!!!
Let us know what you cook this weekend.

TampaHappily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!
3 Large, 1 Small, 1 well-used Mini -
"Take one for the team indeed!" No, don't intentionally test it. No need to push things.

I was joking...or thought I was anyway.
No intention of testing it in the sink, but as you said, accidents do happen. If I DO drop it in the sink, I promise to let everyone know if it still works. As soon as I finish kicking myself. I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I got the new splash proof. With my luck I take all possible precautions. So far no problems but one thing the new ones don't have is a lanyard. This may be a good thing as I end up sticking it in my pocket were the dogs don't get it.
