Welp. I stopped by my local dealer and have purchased a LBGE, w/nest and mates. As some may recall, i was debating getting a demo egg in PA or getting one from a local dealer. Based on your replies, i went local. She'll be delivered 8/19. I'm still looking forward to going to PA eggfest for accessories and maybe meeting some people from here and seeing the egg in action.

Actually, i've been a little hesitant in buying a BGE because i just spent $800 on a new gas grill about 2 months ago. I've spent alot of money on grills the past 6 months...(this will be my 4th grill for just my wife and I  ) But i also realize a BGE will last a lifetime, and with the help of all the great folks on this board I look forward to this new "adventure" and all the great cooks & food that goes along with it.

I'll definately post pics of the maiden voyage. I've got a week to figure out what to cook for the first time.. Thoughts? Anyways, thanks everyone for all the help, I'm sure i'll have more questions and i can't wait to start EGGIN!

  • Welcome aboard! You've done the right thing. Put the gasser on craigslist, as you won't use it anymore. I jumped ship the day before father's day and only wish tha I'd taken the plunge earlier. I've been through three barrel smokers, two weber kettles and a sexy (looking) charbroil gasser that I quickly learned wouldn't get anywhere near hot enough to sear a steak properly. All that cash would have me writing this with another Large BGE by my side. The community here us fantastic and you will be overjoyed at the was with which you can produce cooks that will ruin you for virtually any restaurant experience you might crave. I'm still a newbie egger, but have spent years learning how to cook.

A friend was going to roast a pig for a party in a few weeks. I gave him a foodsaver pack of my humble pulled pork (28 pounds, overnight. Basic rub and a bit of vinegar-based Carolina-style sauce) and he asked me to cook for his party. I may stop in at office depot and get a handful of business cards done up to start up a small side business catering BBQ.

    Happy Egging.

p.s. Bookmark Grandpa's Grub's newbie tips and temperature setting pics for reference as you start your journey. They are a great starting point. Thanks, Kent. You made getting cozy with the egg an easy transition.
