Where to purchase?

Well, I'm ready to buy my first Egg. I have contacted all 5 of the more or less local dealers (per the BGE dealer locator). Best price I found for a Large with baking stone, plate setter and cast iron grill was $820. Worst was $910. Easy.

Then, I looked to see if there were any bad Better Business Bureau-type reports on any of these dealers. The two least expensive places got several bad reviews. I don't know what they did or what product/service they got panned on (pools, spas, BGEs, etc.), but it makes me nervous. The $90 extra might be worth the peace of mind. But there were NO reviews on them, so who knows? Trouble is, the most expensive place is not exactly a volume dealer - they'll have to order most of what I want, including the egg! The other guys have everything in stock.

Do I need to worry about this? Or is an Egg an Egg, no matter where I buy? Opinions welcome! Thanks.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Do you know anyone else local who has an Egg that could direct you to the right dealer?

We have been dealing in them since October 2008 in our store. We dont let any go out the door (within 15 miles) in the box and we deliver most of them. I feel that putting them together for the customer and taking it to them is a great service as they arent the easiet thing to do and heavy to move. (We are hardware retail so we are used to SERVICE)

Your price is good I feel. Does that include the nest and mates or are you building your own table?

When you say you have contacted did you walk in and talk to the people? See if they know what is what? If you havent do that for sure and quiz them on what you know.

In the end an egg is an egg all come from the same chicken in GA. But if you need service after the sale then feel good about your dealer. Sometimes the cheapest price may not include the same things. We give the customer a bag of BGE Lump when they buy the egg... some dont.....

Wherever you choose its a GOOD MOVE!!!! I love my 2 just got done makin pizzas on the mini... mmmmmm
  • Welcome. If you can do a little research before hand, I would see which dealer has good service and a good supply of accessories. This will be a long term relationship, and you may get better service from the store you bought the egg from than buying it from one place, then getting accessories and warranty work from their competition 5 miles away.

    820 still sounds high. yikes.

i'm of the mind these days that money talks, and bvllsh!t walks.

i'd go to the guy you trust and tell him you'd prefer to buy from him, but that the pricing out there is scattershot. tell him what you'd like to pay and see what he says.

    can't hurt.

for what it's worth, the large alone should NOT be pushing 800, cast iron grid, stone, and platesetter excepted

    The selling price of egg.
    1. All eggs leave the mother ship to a Dist.
    2. Freight charges apply to their order.
    3. Dealer orders eggs from dist. min order Four.
    4. Dealer pays freight charges based on weight? or
number of pallets. Haven't figured that out yet.
    5. All ceramics have to be shipped on fgt. truck
    according to my mgmt.Ilo ups
    6. Store mark up (profit) applies to all eggs etc.
do they charge for assembly? I don't. Delivery
    should apply, but I don't.
    7. All profits go to the stores for, light, water,
    maybe some commish, salaries, etc.
    8. Freight is a hugh factor. Labour, If the del truck
does not have a lift gate, you get to life each
egg off by hand. They are quite a arm load. just
heft an xl some day. Not fun.
The profit is now much smaller. The further from
the mothership the higher the freight charges.

I have to admit, I haven't visited any of these dealers. Phone only. There is only one store in my town, the others are 30+ miles away. Assuming I need warrantee help or more accessories, it sure would be more convenient to drive 4 miles instead of 60! $900+ is a killer though, even with the accessories I mentioned. $750 for just the egg. I want to build a table so I'm not buying the nest or egg mate.

Guess I should check 'em out in person.

I sooooo drooled over Faith's estate sale purchase!! Nice tribute to Mr. Fernandez, btw.

In other words, $8-900 in Connecticut ain't so bad. Hey look at what a Weber GAS grill costs!

    Dude,

Go with the guy with the volume. It will make getting eggcessories and warranty parts faster. I wouldn't worry about the money, you will save that in a few months of not eating out. Just my humble opinion.

I have to admit that $799 shocks me also. If I recall last year we were selling them for $699. I always try to comp. the buyer several items based on their needs, ie.lump, fire starters, ash tool, grill grippers. Other words when they take their egg home it's ready to cook on.
Much success & happy egging. Get your best price and enjoy cookin. Smiles to you.
